When Lee Ashcraft and Martin Gerel founded Ashcraft & Gerel in 1953, they built it on the principle of helping people. And, in the 60 years since, we have continued this commitment by working to strengthen the communities we serve.
One example is our investment in the Washington, D.C. union movement. Our attorneys frequently volunteer their time to meet with and speak to local unions on labor laws and workers’ rights.
More than 25 years ago, we also established The Martin E. Gerel Memorial Scholarship, which is offered to Washington metropolitan union members and their families to help with the high cost of education. Each year, we award a one-time grant of $5,000 to an eligible student for education expenses.
Last year, the UFCW Minority Coalition named Ashcraft & Gerel its Company of the Year for our service to the union movement.
