BIO

When Jerry D. Spitz joined Ashcraft & Gerel in 2000, he was already an experienced lawyer with a passion for litigation. In the years since, he has represented thousands of clients and earned a well-deserved reputation for being a persuasive advocate motivated by a simple, persistent mission: to help people who, through no fault of their own, are faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles and to help them get results that exceed their expectations.

Licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., Mr. Spitz operates out of Ashcraft & Gerel’s D.C. office.

In a memorable automobile accident case, Mr. Spitz represented a woman who was struck by a car while she was inline skating. The victim, a competitive athlete, suffered a severe spinal injury as a result.

During litigation, the defense presented pictures of Mr. Spitz’s client working out, claiming that she was in good health, therefore putting into question the merits of her case. Mr. Spitz challenged this claim, successfully arguing that no injury was going to hold back this lifelong athlete, but that perseverance does not change the fact that she was now greatly limited in her ability to enjoy and perform at her previous levels of athleticism as a result of the pain caused by the accident.

Because of his passion and skill, Mr. Spitz was able to win his client a favorable settlement.

Early Years

After graduating from George Washington University Law School, Mr. Spitz spent five years with the United States Department of Labor Employees Compensation Appeals Board, drafting decisions for administrative law judges. He also learned the ins and outs of the D.C. bureaucracy and legal system as an attorney with the District of Columbia Lottery & Charitable Games Control Board for five years, where he was responsible for legal matters ranging from personnel, licensing, gaming, advertising rights, contract procurement, and independent agency issues. Following his stint with the D.C. Lottery, Mr. Spitz then spent six years working for the Bou and Bou law firm, where he represented clients in their personal injury matters and gained valuable experience as a trial lawyer.

Outside the Courtroom

A Long Island native, Mr. Spitz is a huge sports fan, and enjoys playing baseball and golf. He is also actively involved in coaching baseball and currently serves as Commissioner of the Arlington Senior Babe Ruth Baseball League and serves on their governing board.
