Partner Michelle A. Parfitt Elected to International Law Society
Ashcraft & Gerel is proud to announce that Michelle Parfitt, senior partner and a leader in the mass tort field, has been invited to become a Fellow of the prestigious International Society of Barristers.
Created in 1965, the International Society of Barristers is an honor society of outstanding trial lawyers who seek to honor the role of the trial lawyer in our system of justice. One of the society’s principal goals is the preservation of the adversary system and jury trial. The ISOB brings together attorneys from all over the world including the continental United States, Puerto Rico, Scotland, England, Canada, Australia, and Ireland from both the plaintiff and defense side of the law. According to the society’s mission statement, the members support the common goals of:
- Protecting the rights of citizens
- Protecting the integrity of the Bar
- Retaining trial by jury
- Improving and promoting advocacy under an adversary system
- Recognizing advocacy as a specialty with proper standards in place for those who identify themselves as advocates
- Demanding and promoting ethical conduct to all parties involved in litigation including attorneys, judges, and witnesses
Fewer than 800 lawyers are members of the International Society of Barristers. Membership is by invitation only and the extensive screening process considers the lawyer’s ability, experience, accomplishments and ethical standards as assessed by trial lawyers and judges.
