Robert P. Enderle Managing Partner
As the managing partner of Ashcraft & Gerel, Robert P. Enderle oversees all of the firm’s business responsibilities, from personnel and finance to marketing and strategic opportunities. This entails a wide range of activities, involving nearly 40 litigators, offices in three states, and joint ventures all over the country.
In taking care of the business side of Ashcraft & Gerel’s operations, Mr. Enderle focuses on efforts and initiatives that free the firm’s other attorneys to concentrate on better serving and taking care of our clients. Mr. Enderle’s 20 years as a successful plaintiff’s trial lawyer at the firm ensure that Ashcraft & Gerel is overseen by a managing partner who understands the practice from the ground up.
Also defining much of how Mr. Enderle steers the firm is his commitment to deepening its long term relationship with the labor movement. We never forget that the firm started 60 years ago as a two-man shop representing union members in workers’ comp cases at a time when no other firm in D.C. would do it. As he sees it, Ashcraft & Gerel is rooted in this movement, so that even with the firm’s expansion into other practice areas, we will always remain close to these roots, and will always look to expand our support for labor.
In addition to pursuing cases on behalf of our clients, the firm also partners with other law firms to pursue national litigation. With a wealth of experience in complex negotiations, Mr. Enderle is the point person for formalizing these joint ventures, ensuring the smoothest process for all parties.
In 2002, Mr. Enderle oversaw Ashcraft & Gerel’s joining the Atlanta-based firm of Herman, Mathis, Casey & Kitchens, now Herman Gerel. Not a typical joint venture, Herman Gerel is unique—an independent law firm whose primary partners are other law firms. He served as Ashcraft & Gerel’s first representative partner in 2002, and now serves as Herman Gerel’s chairman. Herman Gerel is also a member firm of a nationwide strategic alliance comprising more than 20 law firms that work cooperatively on litigation.
Mr. Enderle welcomes opportunities to discuss new business ideas about joint ventures, case referrals and other strategic opportunities. He can be reached at 301-459-8400.
Referring to himself as a “firm lifer,” Mr. Enderle began his career at Ashcraft & Gerel in 1978 as a part-time law clerk while just a second-year law student. After receiving his Juris Doctorate from George Washington University in 1980, Mr. Enderle was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and practiced in Ashcraft & Gerel’s D.C. office. He later moved to the firm’s Landover, Maryland office, where he continued to build a practice for over 20 years as a successful litigator pursuing mainly plaintiffs’ personal injury cases.
